DNA Athlete is a research project focused on human genetics, sports biology, and longevity, aiming to identify the genetic and molecular bases of aerobic endurance exercise, particularly in long-distance runners (marathoners) and physically active individuals of advanced age (90+)

What will be investigated?

Clinical and genetic profile

We will gather information on health, sports history, and lifestyle, in addition to analyzing the participants’ DNA.

Blood biomarkers

Based on blood samples, we will investigate proteins, signaling molecules, and other markers that help us understand the processes of adaptation to training.

Physical stress test

Participants will perform a treadmill test to measure cardiorespiratory capacity, metabolic thresholds, and VO₂ max—one of the key indicators of aerobic performance.

We want to understand how biological characteristics influence aerobic fitness and healthy aging!

⇒ Are there genes, genetic variants, or biomarkers that favor the individual performance of long-distance runners (marathoners)?


⇒ Do individuals with a genetic predisposition favorable to aerobic exercise possess genes that protect against the cellular processes observed in aging?
